This new piece was commissioned by a longtime friend for her new apartment. Initially I was a bit nervous-worried I’d disappoint her. But she communicated so clearly about her ideas and truly trusted me and my creative decisions. So a really enjoyable process all around!

It’s absolutely amazing! I love love love your work. It speaks to me on an emotional level and technical 🙂 For example, how do you do the appliques without the material shredding on the edges? Is it because it’s silk?

Hi Denise,
Wow-thanks for your kind words! To answer your question, I use fusible web (like Mistyfuse) on the back of the silk after I dye it.I then cut the shape I want, iron it down and free motion stitch it. There’s often a bit of fraying but I like that look. Hope that helps!
