Seventeen of my pieces hung in one place

September 26, 2012

My solo show on the fifth floor rotunda Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, NH is up! It’s strange to realize but I’ve never seen so many of my pieces hung together and in such a beautifully lit space.

The rotunda  is at a bright open crossroads for many of the wings of this huge medical complex. Above the exhibit :

It’s a stunning exhibit space overlooking the main lobby two floors down. DHMC has an arts program with a dedicated director who rotates the artwork in numerous spaces every three months. This goes a long way to reducing any clinical feel to the center. What a wonderful use for art!

My special thanks to my friend, Kris McDermet who tirelessly helped with the hanging and the gelato eating afterwards.

The exhibit will be up through November.

“Continuity” the commission is done and delivered!

September 2, 2012

After over six months of sketches, redesign, color negotiations and creation, I’m done. I delivered it to my art consultant who brokered this commission and she was very happy! Whew! I named it, “Continuity”.

This has been a mighty learning experience for me. I seriously underestimated the time it would take, the stress of creating to someone else’s specifications and how difficult it was to wrestle this baby through a sewing machine! I learned that the constant rough handling and squishing necessary was tough on all the stitching and silk. I had to do a bit of repair work at the end.

But I also learned that I can work this big! And I love the visual impact of this grander scale! I learned that the pressure of creating a commission focused me and kept me working with very little of my usual dithering.

Would I do it again? Yes! But I would charge significantly more and I would negotiate things like color preferences much differently.

Now to rebuild my design wall and percolate ideas for my next project…
